Farm Boy to Winegrower: A Perspective of the Past Forty Years and the Challenges of the Future
The 2008 ASEV Merit Award will be presented to Robert Steinhauer of Wineland Consulting LLC, California, for his many contributions to the wine and grape industry. Hear his address, “Farm Boy to Winegrower, a Perspective of the Past Forty Years and the Challenges of the Future,” about his unique point of view and experience in the wine and grape industry on Thursday, June 19, at the annual meeting.
For four decades, Steinhauer has been in the thick of the ebbs and flows of the winegrape industry — from his start at his family’s raisin farm to today as one of the most influential voices shaping the winegrape industry. Steinhauer retired at Beringer Blass Wine Estates as senior vice president after a 25-year tenure and is a past president of ASEV. Steinhauer is the recipient of several prestigious awards, including the 2005 Wine Integrity Award and Copia’s 2004 Winegrower of the Year, and in 2001, he along with his colleague Ed Sbragia were recognized by the San Francisco Chronicle as Winemakers of the Year.
