Assistant Professor

The Department of Family & Consumer Sciences at Central Washington University is seeking candidates for a nine-month tenure track academic position at the Assistant Professor level to begin fall 2008. A summer contract for July-August 2008 is anticipated in order to participate in the Wine Quality Initiative. Summer contracts are anticipated in subsequent years to supervise interns and support industry workshops and seminars conducted through the Office of Continuing Education. Come join a supportive and committed group of faculty in launching an exciting new degree program.

Responsibilities:
Develop and teach undergraduate courses in Global Wine Studies including courses in wine marketing and branding, wine analysis, international wine trade, wine regions, and viticulture and enology. Conduct research, publish, and participate in university committees and activities.  Assist in managing the Wine Quality Initiative as well as conduct industry and consumer focused workshops and seminars coordinated through the Office of Continuing Education (summer contract).

Required Qualifications:  

  • A Master of Science in viticulture, enology or related field.  
  • A broad base of knowledge and expertise related to wine, wine business issues, and the global wine industry.
  • Teaching experience
  • Experience in wine research including physical, chemical, and/or biological testing of wine
  • Experience using computers and other technology in instruction. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD in enology, horticulture, agri-science, or related field preferred. 
  • Teaching experience in higher education
  • Experience in program and curriculum development
  • Experience developing courses and workshops for undergraduates and the wine industry   
  • Experience using Blackboard or similar online course management system software
