The University of California Cooperative Extension (UCCE) invites applications from qualified candidates for a career-track position. Rank and step are in the CE Advisor series, and commensurate with the candidate’s experience and education. The position will be located in the Napa County Cooperative Extension Office in the City of Napa. The Viticulture Farm Advisor in Napa County will conduct Extension education and problem solving research programs for the local wine grape industry, and provide information and support to producers of other fruit and nut crops. The primary clientele served by the Viticulture Farm Advisor is the local commercial producers of wine grapes; support is also provided to producers of other fruit and nut crops. Information and advice is provided to existing and prospective growers to help them make sound production and management decisions. The Advisor identifies and describes local production problems and brings in appropriate educational and research resources towards their resolution. The close proximity to the UC Davis Viticulture and Enology Department, as well as the Oakville Research facilities offers extraordinary opportunities for a productive research and extension program.
A minimum of a Master’s degree with a background in biological, agricultural, or plant sciences, specializing in viticulture and pest management is preferred. Candidate showing a demonstrated familiarity in the fields of small fruit production, post-harvest handling of fruit and wine making practices is also desirable.
