The Department of Horticulture at Oregon State University is recruiting for a research viticulturist (Assistant Professor tenure-track). Our department seeks an exceptional person to develop a nationally and internationally recognized research program in fundamental and integrative research that improves vine performance, and enhances wine grape and wine quality components. Join a dynamic department and collaborate with viticulture, enology, and other faculty at OSU; researchers at the USDA-ARS; and industry representatives. You will be based in Corvallis, a charming, centrally located small city in the heart of the Willamette Valley and within a two hour drive of the coast, the Cascade Mountains, or Portland. This is an outstanding opportunity for a Ph.D. in a biological or related science such as horticulture, viticulture, botany, or plant biology. This is a full-time 12-month appointment. Tenure-track will be offered at 0.75 FTE. The appointee will be expected to generate 0.25 FTE in sponsored grants and/or contracts to raise their appointment percentage to 1.00 FTE. Oregon State University seeks nominations and applications for the Director of the Oregon Wine Research Institute. The Director will provide administrative and scientific leadership for 8-9 faculty from units within the College of Agricultural Sciences with appointments in the Institute. The Director will represent the Oregon wine industry regionally, nationally, and internationally. Production of Oregon wine focuses on quality. The Director will communicate this in these venues.

Earned doctorate in enology, viticulture, food science, horticulture, botany & plant pathology, business, or a related field is required. Other required qualifications include a national or international reputation for excellence in viticulture, enology or a closely-related field; excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to work with diverse faculty, industry clientele, stakeholders, including donors; demonstrated strength in collaborative leadership, organization skills, administrative and budget management experience, a current valid driver’s license and a demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity.

Previous experience working the wine industry is preferred.

This is a full-time (1.00 FTE), 12-month, fixed-term position, with a two year contract renewed annually (two year rolling contract). The program coordinator has primary responsibility for: leading the degree program in viticulture and assisting with the enology program, offering continuing education classes, workshops, and seminars related to vineyard operation, management of the estate/leased and teaching vineyards.

Qualifications: Master of Science degree in Enology and Viticulture (or related field) or a Bachelor’s degree with significant wine industry experience.

Annual compensation is $52,000 to $64,000, depending on qualifications.
