Special events at Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars are extraordinary. ASEV dinner guests will be welcomed to a reception in the Round Room with a glass of Sauvignon Blanc. Then two Cabernets will be served, along with two paired hors d’oeuvres.

Following the reception, guests will be seated for dinner in the cave dining room, The Great Room. A four course gourmet dinner will be served by one of Napa Valley’s finest chefs. Highlighting the meal will be wines, thoughtfully paired with each menu selection, and served by Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars own professionally trained and knowledgeable staff. In addition, winemaker, Nicki Pruss will be in attendance and will introduce each wine.

RobertMondavi.jpgThe Robert Mondavi Vineyard Room reflects Robert Mondavi’s philosophy of gracious living and the natural pairing of fine food with fine wine.

This spacious room is designed in the Spanish Mission style by architect, Cliff May. A large, sliding skylight spans the central section of the room providing natural light to the atrium area below, which is surrounded by three archways. You will also have the opportunity to view an art exhibit which features various artists throughout the year.

Winery chef, Jeff Mosher, will customize a special menu paired with the wines and prepare a lovely three course dinner using only the freshest seasonal ingredients to complement the style of wines. The tables will be draped with white linens, and set with fresh flowers, custom menus, fine china and Reed and Barton silver. The wines will be served in Riedel crystal stemware.

The wines planned to be served for the dinner are:

  • Reception – Robert Mondavi Winery Unoaked Chardonnay
  • 1st course – 2007 Robert Mondavi Winery Napa Valley Fumé Blanc
  • Entree – 2007 Robert Mondavi Winery Pinot Noir Reserve & 1999 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve
  • Dessert: 2000 Robert Mondavi Winery Sauvignon Blanc Botrytis

A Research Overview

Dr. Andrew Walker
University of California, Davis

We are pleased to host our 2009 Honorary Research Lecturer Professor Dr. Andrew Walker of the Department of Viticulture and Enology, University of California, Davis.

A grape breeder/geneticist in the Department of Viticulture and Enology at UC Davis since 1989, Dr. Walker is a familiar face in the worldwide conference circuit based on multiple research projects. He has developed new rootstocks with resistance to fanleaf degeneration, nematode complexes, phylloxera and, more recently, salinity. He is currently involved in breeding wine, raisin and table grapes that are resistant to Pierce’s disease and powdery mildew. In addition to his research work, Dr. Walker has served as chair of the Horticulture and Agronomy Graduate Group since 1997, which oversees master of science and doctorate degrees in viticulture. He has also served as Vice Chair of the Department of Viticulture and Enology at UC Davis from 2005-2008, Secretary-Treasurer for ASEV from 1999-2004 and is an Associate Editor for the American Journal of Enology and Viticulture.  Currently, he is Chair of the National Grape Crop Germplasm Committee, which advises the USDA and represents grape germplasm interests at the national level.
