Southern Oregon Viticulturist

Assistant Professor – The Oregon State UniversitySouthern Oregon Research & Extension Center seeks exceptional candidates for a regional applied research (60%) and Extension (40%) viticulturist position at the Assistant Professor rank. The successful candidate in collaboration with the winegrape industry and the OWRI team will develop a progressive viticulture applied research and educational Extension program for the southern Oregon wine industry. We are particularly interested in programs to support sustainable management practices for warm climate Vitis vinifera grapes in Southern Oregon’s diverse growing regions. This is an excellent opportunity to work with a dynamic, fast-growing, high-profile industry.

Required Qualifications: PhD in horticulture, viticulture, or related science with a capacity for intellectual curiosity and creativity for applied research; interest in delivering Extension educational programs; demonstrated evidence of ability to obtain funding to support applied research and Extension programs; evidence of ability for both leadership and collaboration to develop new educational approaches that include contemporary media technologies, interdisciplinary teams, field plot research, demonstrations, and on-farm trials in collaboration with growers; demonstrated excellence in oral and written communication skills with keen interest in working with viticulturists and practitioners. Preferred qualifications include viticulture industry experience, experience in integrated farm systems, experience working with diverse populations, and a demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity.

Appointment to the position may be effective July 1, 2013.
