Plumpton College was established in 1926 and is situated in beautiful rural surroundings near Brighton in South-East England and offers a range of land-based degrees, including Wine Business and Wine Production, in association with the University of Brighton. Its 2500-acre farm carries dairy, sheep, pig and arable enterprises, and also provides extensive training facilities in Forestry, Woodland Management, Ecology and Conservation. The college’s 20-acre vineyard normally produces over twenty thousand bottles of wine a year, which are vinified in its new winery and marketed by the College’s staff and students.
A purpose-built Wine Centre was opened in June 2007, consisting of a commercial and research winery, two laboratories, a lecture theatre, a wine evaluation room and a room for special events. This will soon be complemented by the Plumpton College/UK Wine Research Centre, which will contain a research winery and a good range of analytical equipment. These unique facilities are designed to provide a full range of services for professionals in the wine trade and in wine production.
