A new component introduced in Monterey was the Student Flash Talks, moderated by Dr. Andy Walker. Seventeen students provided brief “flashes” of their research, which were well received by a large crowd.
Collaboration with the Monterey County Vintners and Growers Association showcased a taste of local favorites for all conference attendees. We are thankful for the unsurpassed support from the Monterey region and the generous conference sponsors.
As part of our commitment to the industry, ASEV continues to play an ongoing role in nurturing future leaders. ASEV scholarship recipients, who were awarded $70,000 collectively, and ASEV Best Student Presentation Award winners were announced at the National Conference’s popular Student-Industry Mixer.
The success of the National Conference could not be realized without the support of volunteers and sponsors. This was well demonstrated by the impressive outreach from wineries and industry organizations which enabled us to achieve our goal to recognize Dr. Jim Wolpert, Merit Award recipient, for the duration of the conference. We also greatly value the dedication manifested by the presenters, speakers, program organizers, and board members in bringing together the wine and grape community to exchange technical information in an open forum. This national event is paramount to the dissemination of information which is vital for the industry’s current and future success.
