Davis, Calif., March 27, 2024…Mark Battany, a farm advisor with the University of California Agriculture and Natural Resources, has been confirmed as the American Society for Enology and Viticulture (ASEV) 2024 Extension Distinction Award recipient. He will be presenting, “Flipping dimensions: A vertical weather view helps illuminate vineyard challenges,” at the 75th ASEV National Conference in Portland, Oregon, on June 19, 2024.
In our virtual seminar offered for ASEV members, you can read the published paper, see the authors present their findings, and engage directly with them during a Q&A session.
The results from this paper give growers a practical approach to the timing and progression of identifying Grapevine Red Blotch disease (GRBD) symptoms. Removing vines infected with GRBD is a critical strategy for decreasing the virus in the vineyard. However, this approach is limited by the uncertainty of GRBD symptom recognition and the variable timing of symptom appearance. This research quantified the in-season symptom GRBD symptom development over time and across multiple sites. Using these results, growers can better understand the variation in symptom expression and have increased confidence in discerning virus symptoms. The further diagnostic tools covered in this work can reinforce visual assessments and help select an optimal symptom mapping date.
DAVIS, Calif., March 12, 2024…The exploration of hydrogen sulfide formation in canned wines and biological control for grapevine trunk disease in Canada took top research honors for the 2024 American Society for Enology and Viticulture (ASEV) Best Paper Awards.
The selected papers will be presented at the 2024 ASEV National Conference in Portland, Oregon, on June 17-20. Authors will be presented with a plaque and each paper will receive a monetary award to be shared among the authors.
SACRAMENTO, Calif., January 16, 2024…Next week, the wine and grape industry will converge in Sacramento for the industry’s premiere event, the Unified Wine & Grape Symposium, featuring three days of sessions on marketing, business, winegrape growing and winemaking, as well as the largest wine and grape tradeshow in the Americas.
