Dr. Wayne Wilcox After an impressive career, spanning nearly 35 years of
researching and understanding the various factors of fruit
diseases and ways to manage those diseases through control
programs, Dr. Wayne Wilcox from Cornell University, will receive
ASEV’s highest recognition, the Merit
Award.
Fascinated by fruit production early on, Dr. Wilcox began his
research focus on the biology and management of fruit crop
diseases in graduate school at the University of California,
Davis. There, he received his bachelor’s degree in plant science
and his master’s and doctorate degrees in plant pathology. He
joined the Department of Plant Pathology at Cornell University’s
New York State Agriculture Experiment Station in 1984, working
with tree fruit and berry crop growers, and assumed the lead role
for the Cornell University’s grape pathology program in 1994
until his retirement in 2018.
Dr. Wilcox has authored and co-authored more than 100
research publications, including three Best Viticulture Papers of
the Year from AJEV and
the Australian Journal of Grape and Wine Research.

Mildews, and Rots: Bread and Butter to a Grape
Pathologist,” on June 22 at the 73rd National
Conference in San Diego, California.
