The JF Guymon Lectureship was created in 1979 by Jim Guymon’s
family with memorial contributions made after he passed away.
Professor Emeritus Guymon was an enologist who devoted 38 years
to teaching, research and service in the area of brandy
production and wine biochemistry. This lectureship fund was
created for use by the Department of Viticulture and Enology at
the University of California, Davis.
The James F. Guymon Lectureship shall be given to an individual
who has contributed significantly to the understanding of wine
distillation, wine processing, wine chemistry and microbiology,
sensory evaluation of wine or the treatment of winery waste. The
recipient shall be chosen by the faculty of the Department of
Viticulture and Enology and shall present the JF Guymon lecture
at the ASEV national conference or at other prominent
scientific venues, as the Department faculty may determine.
The UC Davis Department of Viticulture and Enology selects a
lecturer for years they identify an appropriate
recipient. The JF Guymon Lectureship has been presented at
many of the past ASEV conferences of the American Society of
Enology and Viticulture (ASEV). Following are a list of
