The American Society for Enology and Viticulture is deeply
saddened by the unexpected loss of lives, properties and
livelihood in the recent Northern California fires. Our hearts go
out to our friends and colleagues affected by this devastating
event. As communities make the transition and begin to rebuild,
ASEV extends our support. Contact us at info@asev.org or call us at (530)
753-3142 and let us know how we can support you during this
difficult time.
ASEV mourns the loss of Dennis ‘Denny’ Martin of Healdsburg,
California, who passed away on August 13, 2017, from prostate
cancer. He was a winemaker for Fetzer Vineyards for three
decades, a sought-after wine judge for competitions throughout
the country, and ASEV past president in 2001-2002.
As a tribute to his legacy, ASEV and its board members announced
the Dennis Martin Enology Memorial Scholarship
that will award a top enology student annually, starting in the
academic year 2018/2019. We thank those in the industry that
supported the scholarship by contributing monetary gifts.
Additional contributions are welcome. Please contact us if you are interested.
This is a good time to remind members to renew their ASEV dues
for 2018 when invoices are sent November 1. Members who attend
the National Conference
and Unified Symposium
can recoup their entire dues in exclusive member discounts alone.

membership beginning November 1 and save on your Unified
Symposium registration.
Deadline to nominate for the Merit
Award is fast approaching. This notable award honors an
individual who has contributed to the progress and advancement of
enology and viticulture in an outstanding and distinguished
manner for the Society and/or wine industry. If you know someone
who you feel deserves this recognition, the deadline to nominate
is November 1.
Nominations for the ASEV Extension Distinction
Award are due November 1. This award recognizes a current
extension educator based on his or her outstanding contribution
to (1) information in enology and viticulture through his or her
program, or (2) the translation of novel research findings into
commercially applicable tools for enologists or viticulturists.
Those who submitted in 2017 need not re-nominate. Nominations
from 2017 that were not chosen have been saved and will be
considered for 2018.
Here at ASEV, volunteers are the heart of the organization and
essential to our success. Our board and committee members are all
volunteers. They continually use their voices to shape and
influence the wine and grape industry. We’d love to have you join
us. Click here to find out how you can
be a part of this community.
Access to decades of peer-reviewed research, discounted fees to
the Unified Symposium, the ASEV National Conference and other
ASEV sponsored professional development events, and videos
on-demand are just some of the membership benefits you can enjoy.
