Extension Award Recipient Clears the Fog on Frost Protection Strategies for Growers Worldwide

ASEV is honored to host University of California Agriculture and Natural Resources (UCANR) Advisor Mark Battany who will present the Extension Distinction Award Presentation, “Flipping Dimensions: A Vertical Weather View Helps Illuminate Vineyard Challenges,” on June 19 in Portland, Oregon.

Mr. Battany is currently the water management and biometeorology advisor for UCANR in San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara counties since 2018, where he also served as the viticultural farm advisor since 2001. He’s addressed a wide range of topics throughout his extension career, including vine mealybug, soil salinity, vine nutrition, irrigation management and frost protection. He is best known for leveraging his skills with weather stations and sensors to help identify temperature inversion conditions regarding frost protection and spray drift risk.
