The 74th ASEV National Conference in Napa,
California, is only one week away. You can still
register at the
discounted early-bird rate through this Friday to attend
sessions, bump elbows with old friends, share a glass with
colleagues and learn the latest scientific information in the
wine and grape industry.
Here’s an overview of the 3-day conference’s key events:
Last year, the ASEV National Conference presented a symposium
that focused on the impact of climate change on viticulture. This
year will continue with the discussion of impacts on the grape
and wine industry with four areas of focus:
How changing conditions impact fruit and wine composition
Adapting to changes in wine composition using microbiological
strategies
Sensory impacts
Managing winery resources sustainably
Speakers throughout the United States and around the world will
be presenting a balance between theoretical and applied science
and will address the concerns in cool, warm, dry and humid
climates. The event will also feature a keynote presentation
during lunch as well as an afternoon tasting.
In February, the ASEV Board approved the creation of the
ASEV Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. On average,
the Society presents $100,000 in scholarships annually to 20-plus
students throughout North America. The Foundation will help
sustain this investment and other educational opportunities for
generations to come.
“The industry looks to ASEV for the fundamental, high-quality
scientific information that is vital to driving innovation. To
succeed in this, we recognize the need to support the development
of the next generation of talented students who will serve in
important academic, industry and governmental roles in the
future,” says Keith Striegler, ASEV Board & Foundation President.
“We are proud to establish the ASEV Foundation in support of one
of ASEV’s most important functions.”
